Asclepias syriaca, commonly known as milkweed, is a native flowering plant that is currently in bloom. This important plant is easily found in the Community Building parking lot on the Medford Campus, as well as the entrance to the Meditation Garden. Milkweed is an important plant because so many species of insects depend upon it. Monarch butterflies cannot survive without milkweed. Their caterpillars only eat milkweed plants and they need milkweed to lay their eggs.
